Small, aquatic ferns. Rhizome slender, creeping; leaves borne singly at nodes; leaves slender, grass-like; tip coiled when young; sporangia in stalked globular structures (sporocarps) at the base of leaves.

Five species, worldwide. One species in Britain and Ireland.
