Phegopteris
Beech Ferns

Medium-sized terrestrial ferns. Rhizome long, thin; stipe with two vascular bundles; leaves borne singly; upper part of frond adnate (joined at base of pinnae); other pinnae fully or partly winged at joint with rhachis; sori lacking indusia.

Three species in temperate regions of Europe, Asia and North America (although recent research indicating possible closer relationships with other genera would change this). One species in Britain and Ireland.
